Trim Restoration in Huntsville, AL
Bringing sun-faded trim back to black, right in your driveway.
If the black trim on your car has gone gray, Huntsville's sun did that.
It's the most common thing I get asked to fix that isn't a full detail. The bumpers, the window moldings, the trim around the mirrors — it starts out a deep black and then a few summers of sitting in a parking lot at Research Park or a driveway with no shade turns it dull and chalky. That's UV breaking down the surface of the plastic. It doesn't mean the trim's ruined; it means the top layer's oxidized and needs restoring, not just wiping.
Here's the honest version, because it matters: a quick trim dressing — the spray-and-walk-away stuff — looks great the day you put it on and then washes off in the next couple of rains. Restoration is the real job. I clean the trim back, get the oxidation off, and bring the color back so it actually holds. It's more work than a dressing, and it lasts a lot longer.
Restored trim isn't permanent, though — nothing on the outside of a car that lives in the Alabama sun is. It'll hold for a good while, then the sun starts working on it again and it's worth a refresh. When I do it, I'll tell you straight what to expect for your car.
I'm mobile, so this happens in your driveway — Hampton Cove, Monte Sano, Twickenham, out toward Madison, wherever you are in Madison County. Trim restoration is part of a full Supercharged detail, but if faded trim is the only thing you want handled, I'll come do just that. Every job's quoted per car. Give me a look at it and I'll tell you what it needs.
Three levels, whatever your car needs
When I detail a car I'm not just washing it — I'm protecting it. So there are three levels, and they build on each other. Stock is a proper clean-up for a car that's already in good shape. NOS is everything in Stock plus deeper interior work and more attention outside, for a car that's stayed fairly clean but hasn't been detailed in a while. Supercharged is the full workup — everything in NOS plus paint protection and the deep stuff, for a car with real buildup, faded trim, or an interior that's been lived in. You can add any single service onto any level too. The full menu is here. There are no set prices — I look at your car and quote it straight.
What you'll need at your place
To detail your car in Huntsville, I just need two things from you: an outdoor water spigot and a power outlet I can reach, plus enough room to walk all the way around the car. I bring everything else — the skill, the products, the machines, all of it. Pull out anything valuable and leave the trash; I'll handle that. You stay home, watch TV or eat dinner, and your car gets done right there in the driveway.
Huntsville questions
My bumpers and window trim have gone gray and chalky. Can you fix that?
Usually, yes. That gray, chalky look is the sun breaking down the top layer of the plastic. I clean it back and restore the color so it looks dark again. How far it comes back depends on how far gone it is — I'll look it over and tell you straight what I can do with yours.
Is trim restoration the same as just wiping some shine on it?
No, and this is the honest part. A quick dressing looks good for a week or two and then it's gone — washed off in the next few rains. Restoration is the real version: I clean the trim down and bring the color back so it lasts. It's more work, but you're not redoing it every other weekend.
Do I have to book a full detail, or can you just do the trim?
Either way. Trim restoration comes standard in a Supercharged detail. But if your paint and interior are fine and the faded trim is the only thing bugging you, I'll come out and do just that. Same as everything else — I come to your driveway in Huntsville, and it's quoted per car.
